I Ditched the Biomechanics-First Approach — and My Clients Got Better, Faster!

applied neurology brain science fundamentals of neurology neuroscience next level neuro framework Apr 07, 2025

I bet you are asking? What did you do instead?

Here’s how we’ve gotten real results in the very first session — without any prior experience in neuroscience or applied neurology.

Results that clients SEE and FEEL instantly.  This is true change.  Change that sells itself.

And you can too.

You’ve taken the courses.

You’ve studied the methods.

You’ve learned how to assess posture, range of motion, movement quality, and strength.

You can spot an unstable pelvis or an internally rotated femur from across the room.

And yet — you still run into clients who just don’t get better.

We know you care, and you care a lot.

It's personal to you when they come back hurting again and because you are an empathetic coach, you might even feel like you failed them.

You didn't.

They do the drills. They check all the boxes. But the pain returns. Performance plateaus. Progress stalls.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, frustrated or wondered if you’re missing something...

You’re not alone - you’re not doing anything wrong. We’ve been where you are. That’s what led us to Applied Neurology—and probably what brought you here, too.

What’s missing isn’t your effort. Not more empathy.  Not more grind.

It’s your neurology-based framework.

Yes, the neurology-based framework.

Why Neurology First Frameworks Matter

(Especially for Coaches, Therapists, and Neuro-Curious Practitioners)

"Great professionals start with great structure" - Peter Parker did NOT say.

Michelin-star chefs don’t jump straight to innovation — they master the foundational recipes first. Then, and only then, do they begin to experiment.

Therapists and coaches need the same kind of structure — a step-by-step process that guides where to start, what to prioritize, and how to adapt over time.

That’s where the Next Level Neuro Transformation Ladder Framework comes in.

This is a five-step system developed by the team at Next Level Neuro, designed to help movement professionals, bodyworkers, and applied neurology practitioners assess and address the nervous system — not just the muscles and joints.

Because here’s the truth:

🧠 All pain, movement, and behavior are controlled by the brain.
⚠️ If the nervous system feels threatened, it will shut down movement, limit performance, and even create pain — no matter how “good” your biomechanics are.
✅ The only way to create consistent, sustainable change is to work with the brain first.

Introducing the 5-Step Transformation Ladder Framework

This framework is simple enough to start using right away — but powerful enough to guide a full client journey.

Each level builds on the one before it.

Think of it as progressive loading for the nervous system.

1. Regulation

Start here. Always.

Before strength. Before mobility. Before coaching mindset. You must create safety in the system.

This means working with:

  • The autonomic nervous system (fight, flight, freeze vs. rest and digest)
  • The vagus nerve and brainstem
  • Lymphatic flow, breathwork, and sensory calming inputs

A dysregulated nervous system is like a car with the emergency brake on. You can push, but it’ll resist — and possibly break down.

2. Fuel

Neurological change demands metabolic resources.

This level focuses on:

  • Blood sugar and hydration
  • Breathing mechanics
  • Micronutrient support for brain function

If the brain doesn’t have the energy to adapt, even the best inputs will fall flat. Fueling the system allows neuroplasticity to happen.

See How The Brain Feeds to understand the importance for your client's success.

3. Inputs (Sensory Systems)

All outputs (movement, pain, emotion) begin with inputs.

That includes:

  • Visual and vestibular (balance) input
  • Proprioception and body awareness
  • Interoception (awareness of internal states)

Poor input = poor output.

Training these systems helps your client’s brain feel more certain, and certainty leads to safety.

See The Threat Bucket for a more educational understanding.

4. Integration (Motor Control & Load)

Now it’s time to move.

Once the system is regulated, fueled, and receiving good sensory input, you can safely begin:

  • Strength training
  • Movement coaching
  • Motor pattern retraining

Here, you’ll see faster gains, cleaner technique, and fewer regressions — because the brain is on board.

5. Frontal Lobe Activation

This is the final step — and often the key to long-term change.

The frontal cortex governs:

  • Executive function and decision-making
  • Impulse control
  • Motivation and behavior

We use specific drills and dual-task training to activate this area and help clients make changes that stick — not just physically, but behaviorally too.

Why Practitioners Need a Starting Framework Now More Than Ever

Let’s face it: The industry is shifting.

Clients are more informed but also more dysregulated.

They’re showing up with trauma, chronic stress, post-viral symptoms, and nervous systems stuck in fight or freeze.

Biomechanical interventions alone just don’t cut it anymore.

Without a framework that includes the brain, even the best exercises can backfire — or worse, push someone further into threat.

The Transformation Ladder Framework gives you a map. You’ll know:

  • Where to start based on your client’s needs
  • How to assess if something is working — or not
  • When to move forward and when to pause

It takes out the guesswork and puts you back in control.

The Transformation Ladder Framework: How to Use Applied Neurology to Transform Pain and Performance
🗓️ Friday, April 11th at 2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific
🔗 Register Here Now

Whether you're brand new to neuro or looking to add structure to what you already know, this session will show you exactly how to start making the nervous system your strongest asset.

Start With the Recipe — Then Make It Yours

You don’t have to be an expert in neuroscience to help people feel better.

But you do need a structure — something that allows you to build safely and effectively.

The Transformation Ladder gives you that.

Start here. Learn the system. Use it with your clients.

And once it becomes second nature? Like a five-star chef, you’ll start developing your own “recipes.” You’ll know when to improvise, when to push, and when to pull back.

But first, master the method.

👉 Join us Friday at 11am Pacific 2pm ET and learn how to start.
