How Do I Know Which Area of the Brain to Train?

If I were a personal trainer, coach, or therapist looking into Applied Neurology and how it can impact my coaching, a question we get daily on our information calls is the title of this article: “How Do I Know Which Area of the Brain to Train?”

Could this be an in-depth question? Yes. But at Next Level Neuro, we understand that brain science can be scary and overwhelming, and we are in the business of making it SIMPLE.

So, if you are reading this and saying, “It depends,” well, that tells me you have a background in neuroscience. But like all new education, breaking it down into simple chunks so you can learn and apply is what we are phenomenal at doing.

Here's a simple guide to help you navigate this process and other places where you can find more answers.

Step 1: Assessing Brain Function

The key to effective brain training lies in our NEURO assessment process. This involves simple movements to understand how your nervous system is responding at the moment and then acts as our reassessment so we know if the neuro drills we chose were correct.

Yes, it is that simple for our assessment process. They take seconds and the client will FEEL and SEE the changes in the reassessment process.

If you want a FREE walkthrough of some assessments, we have outlined many in our case studies. Here is the link to receive the training workshop we did for free.

Step 2: Using Assessments to Guide Training

As mentioned above, our Neuro assessments are crucial because they provide a clear picture of how the brain and nervous system respond. There are various assessment tools and techniques that we teach in our mentorship that keep things super easy to understand.

Our assessments not only help us understand what neuro drill choices to make, but they can tell you immediately if your sets, reps, and time under tension are spot on, too much, or if you should increase.

We keep the Neuro assessments at an 8th-grade level and teach you how to use these during your sessions.

Many of our coaches are in the personal training and therapy world, so we built a short educational model where we teach these during a training session.

Learning how to choose which neuro drills to use, interpret the results, and reassess over time is a vital part of getting your clients to leave your sessions healthier than when they came in.

Understanding the "Offline" Brain

Another common question is: "Why does the brain go offline?"

Many ask, “Why does this happen?”

Most clients do not even realize that what they have lost with their brain they can gain back as fast as you can snap your fingers.

The “Why” is a little more complex than this blog will dig into, but there are several reasons why this might happen, including fatigue, age, stress, head trauma, emotional trauma, lack of proper nutrition, underlying neurological issues, and a bevy of others.

Remember this; “Everything above the neck drives everything below the neck.”

Once you start understanding the simplicities of brain function, you start putting the pieces together on the importance of the brain as the governing center of our bodies.

Continuous Learning and Adaptation

The beauty of applied neurology and brain training is that it is an ongoing process. There is no end to the creativity and ongoing help it can provide your clientele and your business.

Our current graduate students have all stayed together to continue to learn and become this generation's health movement.

Determining which areas of the brain to train requires a simple approach to assessments and an understanding of where to start on the neural hierarchy (Vision, inner ear, or proprioceptive areas).

By starting with a few simple neuro assessments like hand flips and using that information to guide targeted neuro drills, health professionals can improve their clients within minutes if not seconds.
